For as long as I've been drawing and painting, which I guess is since I was 4, my practice has been about stories and landscapes. My earliest memories of "doing art" are of waking earlier than anyone else in the house and telling stories in my head as I was drawing.
just at the moment I can't paint en plain air as there is only grey flat light and I don't want to paint that again and again!
Working from an em plain air painting done this week I have brought the figures in to the landscape. Standing in my garden the sun is breaking through and I begin to hold that image in my head. I imagine what I look like standing there then I come in and paint from imagination and memory.
