It has been so hard not to have seen the children for so long. Not seen at Christmas and hardly seen over the last year. Though we have FaceTimed, it is quite an un-natural way to be connected. It's not like sitting round a table chatting. The gaps in the conversation seem so awkward and not the easy thing they would be if we were eating together or just hanging out in the garden or on the beach. There is the interesting dynamic of being in each others spaces all at the same time. We can see each others spaces and the things we have around us. The night time calls we're often drinking from tea cups, beer and wine glasses, munching on snacks or supper and these objects appear on screen and block our faces... they are an interesting addition to the visuals for pandemic mothering...
